The “Good Bones” of the House of Creativity

The house of Creativity is built on three things: context, purpose and fill the gap  defined by the context and the purpose.

A house has a foundation, but what makes a house a home is the way the “good bones” of the house are augmented and made complete by the walls, windows, doors, and further by furnishing, color coordinated décor, etc.

And these three good bones are absolutely necessary!

“What’s the proof that creativity must be built on those 3 things?”

Let’s look at each individually to understand better.

Creativity must have Context

What is a created thing without the context in which it is present?

Does a pen without ink or paper do anything?

Creativity must have Purpose

What is a created thing without the purpose for which it exists?

Does a pen that is not intended for writing mean anything?!

Creativity must “fill the Gap”

The hand wants to write. The paper is ready to be written on. But there is no pen?!

Prove it to yourself – pick something and try to define it without a context or purpose or by removing what fills the gap. It is impossible.

Isn’t it clear now that defining context, defining purpose and filling the gap are necessary ingredients to creativity, and if you lack any in your attempts at being creative, you might get a result, but it will be lacking.

But with those three (defining context, defining purpose, filling the gap), the house of creativity can be said to have “good bones.”

Making a House into a Home

Now that we’ve shown the house of creativity has “good bones” when context, purpose and filling the gap are all present and accounted for, how do we turn a good house into a wonderful home?

Can we renovate creativity?

A good home is on a piece of land, but the best homes are on the choicest land. A good home is made with the minimally viable lumber, but a great home uses the best lumber. A good home is designed to meet basic human needs, but the ultimate home serves all the needs of the people who live there and visit.  How is Leveraged Creativity compared to simplistic creativity?

Renovating Context and Purpose

Leveraged Creativity takes the context of creativity and makes it something to review dynamically – it can shift, expand, contract, and change.

Leveraged Creativity takes the purpose and looks for opportunities to do something similar.  Just by modulating those two aspects of creativity, the opportunities to generate more relevant and effective and genuinely creative results multiplies.

It’s simple mathematics: If you have more variations, you have more combinations. The key is that these are related to the original goal where one wishes to be creative.  It’s not just generating random ideas. Not at all.

But that’s not even the sweet spot for Leveraged Creativity – as powerful as just doing those two things are.

Renovating “Filling the gap” to Systematic Integration

Regular creativity must “fill the gap” in some way, but Leveraged Creativity doesn’t just say “fill the gap”.

Leveraged Creativity says “Let’s look for leverage points in the gap and see how we can benefit from applying those leverage points”.

These are real system leverage points that apply to any creative outcome you’re looking for.  These leverage points can be minor or major in their application and in their implication. The point is they are powerful and you can see them and direct them because you understand how they work (or at least you can if you learn Leveraged Creativity).

But in Leveraged Creativity, we don’t say “fill the gap” – that isn’t precise enough – we say “Integrate!”

You could say that Leveraged Creativity is “Systematically integrating through the context for the intended purpose to achieve an effective creative result”

And, in that way, what was once the house of creativity becomes a beautiful home.

And everyone who visits this home wants to come back again and again.
